Ad Hype: AW 2010-11
It comes as no surprise that some of the season’s stand out campaigns encapsulate Fall 2010’s muse… the ‘Mad Men’ inspired fifties luvvies. Louis Vuitton’s buxom beauties Natalia, Christy and Karen paint the prettiest picture in their full dresses and girlish ponytails. Miuccia follows up last season’s ‘First Spring’ campaign with another video and print offering with Angela Lindvall as the downtown sixties songstress. Natalia and Lars look quite the Hitchcock couple in a filmic campaign for Hugo Boss, which is similarly echoed through Fendi by Karl Lagerfeld.
From there, the fifties housewife hitch-hikes a road trip down Route 66, via a seedy saloon and into Nevada. Mert & Marcus shot a trashy, ashy Sascha for Just Cavalli. It’s an angle the international labels have chosen to channel with Aldo’s jukebox honey, Wheels and Dollbaby’s cowgirl and Guess’s Elvis groupies. Balenciaga, Kenzo and Derek Lam all shot their models against Western sienna sunsets all worthy of a The Killers video backdrop. Chloe and Gucci channelled a similar fifties spirit…by way of the seventies. But fifties Americana isn’t for everyone and we simply love the gothic almost voodoo vixens at Alberta Ferretti and Lanvin. Marc Jacobs’ rustic farmgirls featured just as we imagined…in idyllic bucolic fields.
In terms of Fall’s faces, you couldn’t turn a page last season without seeing Lara Stone and this winter the Dutch beauty has streamlined her exposure heading up the whole Calvin Klein family from Calvin Klein Collection, cK and cK Jeans. Abbey Lee Kershaw is all over the glossies fronting brands as diverse as Mulberry, Anna Sui, H&M, Jaeger and Chanel. Easily the most controversial appointment of the season is Ricardo Tisci’s transgender muse, Lea T for Givenchy.
Once again, Burberry Prosum featured a line up of British models – naturally with some innovative twist. On the official site, images can be rotated and zoomed in for a 360 degree view of the collection.
