Atsuyo et Akiko
How’s this for multinational? Atsuyo et Akiko is a label launched by two Japanese designers, living in New York, whose work has a distinctive French flavour. Atsuyo Yang, a former handbag designer for Tocca and Akiko Mukae, a painter, decided to team up for a range of accessories and kids’ wear. But this isn’t just kids’ stuff. The whimsical accessories including jewellery, sequinned headbands and masks, mix well with the natural linen scarves and cushions and unbleached cotton T-shirts. The vintage colour palette of pastels, concrete and putty captures that soft, French mood, with Japanese cuteness and New York smarts. The “Je t’aime Brooklyn” tote bag was featured in US Vogue. In Australia, you’ll find Atsuyo et Akiko at Kido Store in Clovelly NSW and Manon et Gwenaelle in Darlinghurst, NSW. But check out the online store and gallery for inspiration. The jewellery, in particular is too good to give to the kids!
