Chalk Room at Hostem, London

Chalk Room at Hostem

Easily one of our favourite menswear boutiques, we were delighted to hear Hostem in London has expanded with a brand new basement area called the 'Chalk Room'.

The store is defined by its distinctive 'revived antique' interior characterised by repurposed vintage furnishings, refabricated curios and distressed finishing and this aesthetic continues into the new room also. Envisioned and created by design duo Hannah Plumb and James Russell of JAMESPLUMB, the ethos behind the new room is to give the store's special designers breathing space to be showcased in a way they deserve. 'We wanted to create a one-off assemblage to house the products so that the focus is on how the designs are curated, and highlighting the craft and skill of the designers', comments Plumb.

As usual the duo have created special pieces for the room including a stack of antique suitcases that have been re-lined in linen, a slightly 'tipsy' looking wardrobe and a chesterfield sofa that has been merged with an antique table top. Each object serves the purpose of showcasing clothing and accessories in an exhibitionist way. It's exciting and encouraging to see retailers experimenting with environments that customers would feel compelled to explore. We look forward to more of this in 2012...
