Curves - Alicia Pyke
We asked our favorite bloggers to sum up the best of 2009
From one extreme to the other: as the size 0 debate exploded and Kate Moss was quoted as saying “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”, 2009 was the year curves suddenly came out of the closet. Plump pin-up Beth Ditto became besties with self-appointed captain of the thin police Karl Lagerfeld (she played his Fendi after party in March) and appeared on the launch issue of Katie Grand’s Love magazine. Beyonce meanwhile championed her own curves, honed to perfection through her grueling I Am world tour schedule: “I feel best when I’m not really thin and not really heavy – when I’m still curvy,” she told one mag. Closer to home, Australia’s Who put singer Ricki-Lee Coulter on the cover in all her size-14 glory and men’s title Ralph broke code by following suit for its November issue.
