DESEX by Phoenix Keating
Up and coming designer and stylist Phoenix Keating (20 years old) has truly made a name for himself, having styled for the likes of Tangent magazine and going on to design items coveted and worn by Lady Gaga, Phoenix Keating is a name to watch!
After the Success of his show in 2011, Phoenix Keating displayed his De-sex collection pre-fashion week this year, a domesticated fetish inspired collection, where Keating deconstructed and re-fined the tailoring and strong structure associates with fetish apparel, to create a beautiful textural mix between ready to wear and couture. He quotes “it is the de-sexualisation of fetish, I’m taking something that would otherwise seem overtly sexual and trying to transform it into something quite light and wearable.”
The De-sex show was provocative, and classic, through his use of light weight Silicones, bondage style ropes, and an ode to utilitarian uniforms of the 1920’s and 1930’s. His innovative designs were staged in an attentively lit Uniting church, in Paddington. A controversial and intriguing idea.
It was a true pleasure to view Phoenix Keating new collection, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
