Farewell Corinne Day

The fashion world has just lost another major talent. Photographer Corinne Day, known for her iconic images of Kate Moss, died last Friday, 27th August, at home. She was only 48. It is believed that she finally lost her battle with a brain tumor, which she had been fighting for 10 years. Her images of a very young Kate Moss, launched the career of the “supermodel” (who can forget the fresh-faced, exuberant 16 year old on the cover of The Face, June 1990?). Day also pioneered a very natural style, which came to be described as “heroin chic”, earning the criticism of President Bill Clinton at the time. Day’s naturalistic, candid pictures were a stunning change from the uber sexy, heavily styled and made up shots of the 1980s. Gemma Ward was a recent Day favourite. Following in her path was a new breed of British photographers like David Sims, David Sorrenti and Rankin, and a new look emerged in fashion. Slim girls with freckles, limp hair and crooked teeth made the covers of magazines. The era of perfect amazons was over. While Day will be sorely missed, fashion, styling, photography and modeling will continue to experience the impact of her unique vision.

Corinne Day’s funeral will be held this Friday, September 3, in Buckinghamshire. Friends and colleagues who wish to attend should contact Sarah@sarahmurraycasting.com
