Fifties Flair at the Fifties Fair

Surely one of the coolest events in Sydney's busy calendar, has to be the annual Historical House Trust's Fifties Fair, held at the impressive ode to Modernism architecture- the Rose Seidler House. Located in Wahroonga on a 2.6 hectare estate overlooking the natural bushland of Ku-ring-gai National Park, the Harry Seidler designed masterpiece is the perfect setting for this dazzling parade of all things 1950's. Weaving through the trees were stalls selling memorabillia, food stalls, and infront of the house a custom built stage with entertainment throughout the day, such as best dressed prizes, hoola-hooping, and live music to add to the fun.

As we all know, the decade has many and varied looks, so it was a thrill to witness people dressed in all aspects of the era - there were "Cry baby" inspired ingenues, Rock-a-billies, gangsters, "Grease" style beauty school drop-outs, Beatniks, and of course the classic pin-up look. Hundreds of dedicated people were embracing the fashions to such authenticity, that it truly felt like a delicious timewarp.

Scout hearts the Fifties.
