Going postal for Oz fashion

Interest in buying Australian continues to grow with news that Melbourne's historic GPO shopping arcade – in full Christmas mode – is now dominated by independent local labels, winning several fresh tenancies in recent weeks. Newcomers include Limedrop, Manning Cartell, Nicola Waite and Alpha 60 with Willow and Tim O'Connor due to open later this month. They join a roll call including Akira, Zimmermann, Gorman, Fat, Leona Edmiston, Lisa Ho, Metalicus, Nicolangela, Wayne Cooper, Sass & Bide and Hussy. While the other names are surely familiar, Limedrop is a new one to know for its very Melbourne take on men’s and women’s streetwear (think baggy layers plus lots of black and grey) and girlie jewelry. BTW, GPO’s Sass & Bide store on the ground level is where you’ll find Scott Schuman signing his eponymous book The Sartorialist, from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday, 10th December.
