Goodbye Malcolm, godfather of punk

Pop culture pioneer Malcolm McLaren died of cancer last Thursday in New York, aged 64. He is best remembered as the man who brought punk rock to the masses with The Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, Adam Ant and Bow Wow Wow. He was also the former partner of designer Vivienne Westwood, and the ultimate showman. He had the commercial cunning to turn bondage gear into fashion and put provocative images onto T-shirts. He truly understood the value of a strong image, even before the MTV generation. In the 80's and 90's, he championed hip hop, and helped formulate trends like "Buffalo girls". Westwood and McLaren had a son, Joe Corre, who co-founded the Agent Provocateur lingerie brand.
