Helmut Newton Exhibition In Paris

The work of Helmut Newton (1920-2004) is currently being exhibited in the spectacular Grand Palais. Not only is there a vast collection of Newton’s photographs from editorials and campaigns, but also his own work including his most famous Grand Nudes in all their glory. The iconic cinematic element to Newton’s photography is even more powerful when his work is seen like this en masse, and certainly deems it fitting for the grandeur of the venue. Newton’s disturbing sadomasochistic aesthetic, as well as his obvious fascination with androgyny, are iconic elements that are celebrated in this exhibition. The charming film made by June, Newton’s wife, pierces through this often harsh aesthetic and reveals the care, artistry and obsession of the man behind the camera.

The popularity of this impressive exhibition has extended its season until July 30th, before it travels around the world. Look out for it in your city. It’s a must see event.
