KIMONO MY HOUSE

While we are talking things Japanese in Sydney….the chopsticks and Evisu jeans (plus Asahi beer drinkers) were well and truly out in force on Friday night for the opening of Leon Krasenstein and Pippa McManus exhibition. Cheekily entitled KIMONO MY HOUSE with a nod to the 70’s Sparks album of the said title and a clever pun to identify the Japanese fusion of art, fashion and the fact that the gallery is in fact part of Leon’s home. In true Surry Hills style, guests and art lovers mused over the intricate illustrations with off the wall Asian inspired titles such as Tsunami Blues, whilst sipping over Shanghai Mai Tai cocktails in the courtyard. Pippa’s love of fashion and Japanese style and Leon’s background in theatre and fascination in Japanese Kabuki has created quite an extraordinary collaboration for these new artists on the block. Originally both from Perth this is their first collaboration and exhibition in Sydney and already their work is being sought after by the likes of Eamon Sullivan and Geoff Huegill. Scout thinks this gallery, right in the heart of Surry Hills, is one to watch.

The exhibition runs through to the end of December.
