Ksubi Closes RAFW with a Bang

Ksubi closed this year's RAFW on Friday night, with a show titled One Via Zero in honour of their 10th birthday. The excitement for this show had been brewing all week as the celebrated label stepped back into the spotlight. With Renowned stylist Brana Wolf on board and Producer Kannon Rajah the SCOUT team had quite literally been counting down the days to see what this team would pull off. With their history for roguery the pre show chatter was all about what kind of animal they might send down the runway this year that could top the notorious rats.

The production value was high. From the second you walked into the huge off site space at the Royal hall of industries you knew you were in for something special. The crowd gathered around a circular runway. Gigantic suspended video screens started to play a grungy, thought provoking message from the label “… I fucked around I’m sick of it we better get somewhere and we better be quick or the next thing you know we’ll be gone”.

The first model miraculously appeared in the centre of the runway, followed by another and another. the designers kept to their hero pieces. A safe move after turbulent times for the brand. Sticking with their core, we saw plenty of double denim with head to toe white and bleached out two-tone denim looks. Cut outs, crop tops and mesh body suits kept the pieces right on trend. The styling was slick with black leather trucker caps with the backs cut out and hot wedge ankle books. We loved the textured jeans in white or blue cloque that looked like tyre tracks and the jacquard look printed denim hinting of a more decadent feel to come.  The collection took the 90’s vibe that has been prevalent recently and gave it a slicker, edgier face.

What Ksubi delivered was a sophisticated and well-edited show with staple brand pieces that are not a look to the past but recognition of what they do so well. Whilst there may have been no crazy stunts to report of, we instead saw a brand that is taking themselves more seriously and is ready to re claim their title as serious competitors in the international fashion scene. After 10years in the industry I think the boys have proved they have the talent and the stamina to stick around and do just that.
