London - Styling and Displays

Whilst tracking down the UK high street’s essential fashion trends, we took note of some fresh styling ideas and innovative displays.

On-the-pulse Zara featured a fresh blue and white story mixing nautical influences with sexy fifties styling and mono florals. Take note of the play with proportions – a short lingerie waspie worn over a striped tee or long textured seersucker shirt worn peeking out under a mini skirt. We also loved the nude shoe and long white sock combo. In terms of beauty we loved Topshop’s take on Glamazon beauty with tribal top-knot hair styles achieved by first crimping the hair into matted texture then pulling into a high bun.  Paint box colour daubs in manner of Grace Jones completed the look. We also loved Zara’s pretty punks with candy pink blusher sprinkled with glitter and er, paperclips.

Bershka took the festival kit into jungle wilderness with a paper cut-out backdrop display and bizarre but definitely stop-and-stare oversized animal heads! French Connection, incorporated the trend for fashion-on-film into their ‘This is the Woman’ campaign; suspended photographs upon further inspection made subtle eye movements like squinting and winking. Finally, we loved Liberty’s ‘Birthday Party’ display featuring fabulous fashion paper-doll cut outs schmoozing in a glittering miniature dolls house setting.
