London High Street - June retail trends
The high-summer season is in full swing here in the UK so we took a moment to decode the major Womenswear trends rocking at the big fast-fashion high street stores.
We see the Balmain-style military mania product metamorphose into Glamazonian – think pick and mix prints from global cultures teamed with embellished and distressed cropped tees, raw-edged khaki officer jackets and harem pants. The beauty of this story is its versatility for youth markets, eveningwear and even the working wardrobe. Accessories are super-strong for this trend with lots of options for updating summer sandals with glitzy tribal beading and cutwork, luxe tasselled bags and handicraft woven straw clutches. Spinning off from the ethnic trend is the first shoots of ‘Folk’ manifesting in Eastern European style embroideries and trims. This is likely to gain momentum off the back of the Christopher Kane/JPG/Alexandre Herchcovitch collections.
Somewhere between the haystacks and the saloon is a look part Southern Belle, part Edwardian lady and definitely for the girly girl. We see the ubiquitous laces of late re-fashioned into Chanel-style tiered dresses and demure high-necked or caped blouses at Mango, Warehouse and Miss Selfridge in particular. Summer is synonymous with Festival Culture especially where the youth markets are concerned. The uniform? Cuffed denim shorts, oversized dropped-shoulder jerseys, printed tees and flirty floral print frocks. Accessorize with a River Islands welly x day boot hybrids, and a VIP pass of course!
