Pioneer of Pop

If you happen to be passing Milan before May 30th, be sure to check out the Roy Lichtenstein Retrospective "Meditations of Art" at the Triennale di Milano, vial Alemagna. The dazzling genius of this famous American artist is one of the cultural highlights of the year.

Over one hundred works of the Pop pioneer are on show: paintings, drawings, and sculptures curated from prestigious private collections and renowned international museums. In some cases these works have never been exhibited before, so get your skates on!

It is his famous comic book paintings that tipped the art world on it's head back in the early 1960's, and help establish Roy and Pop Art to the world. Andy Warhol may be considered the Godfather of Pop after commercial success in the late 1960's with his soup can paintings, but without Lichtenstein's early important pieces, such as "Wham!" and "Drowning Girl" the then radical art movement may not have helped define an era. His work remains dynamic and explosive to this day.
