RAFW 2010 Trend wrap

The dust has settled on this years Rosemount Australian Fashion Week which showcased the best of Australian fashion for Spring Summer 10/11, introducing some new names to watch whilst the more established labels just get stronger and stronger.

Taking a lead from the Scout forecast for SS11 we’ve done a complete trend wrap on the hottest looks to come through and the ones we feel are the best of what our designers have to offer, trends that on the world stage stand up with the best and looks that Aussie girls will be wearing the minute the weather warms up. From ‘hard edged modernists’ to ‘ethereal feminist’s’, Australian fashion has it it all wrapped up...

TRENDS

Draping, folding, knotting and body conscious, all took a lead from our FASHION SURGERY trend. Sheer fabrics worked back with the softest suedes and natural leathers were seen at Lisa Ho, Gary Bigeni and also touched on by the Dion Lee at one of the most talked about shows of the week.

We saw shades of SURVIVALIST at Camilla and Marc and Kate Sylvester both interpreted in different ways. Kate taking a softer option using soft voiles back with leather and utility fabrics, Camilla and Marc using dark khaki with tribal inspired monotone prints. Kirilly Johnston used stripe knits and printed georgettes to create her tribal princess.

Christopher Esber and Friedrich Grey perfected the METROPOL trend with hard edged architectural inspired pieces for the modern urban girl. Cut out leather mixed with soft transparent silks, whilst Dion Lee supplied the perfect monochromatic prints for this trend.

Clean, fresh, 1950’s and 60’s retro inspired by BATHING BEAUTIES using crisp cottons, broderie and lace. Washed out pastels and soft bathing blues were looking modern at Jayson Brunsdon and more fun at Anna & Boy. We loved Christopher Esber’s soft pool blue skirt with a crisp white shirt and Bianca Spenders soft lace jumpsuit.

Printed silks, bold stripes and tropical florals brought our GYPSETTERS trend alive and colour to the catwalk. We loved the way Marnie Skillings mixed tonal florals and stripes and the big silk floral shirts at Alice McCall while Magdalena Veleveska mixed bold blocked colour perfectly.

 Other must haves we saw

Floaty maxi’s

Grecian inspired gowns

Garden dresses

Crop tops

Aquatic inspired prints

And of course denim on denim
