Stitch Menswear Autumn/Winter 2010-11
Stitch is shaping up to become a hot new fixture on the Menswear tradeshow circuit. Held in London, there’s something for everyone at the Menswear show from high-end designers like Tillman Lauterbach to street favourites like Boxfresh. The atmosphere of the debut event was a quiet buzz, with positive feedback and exciting orders from major market players.
A unique element of the show was ‘Vision’, a space curated by Professor Louise Wilson MBE, famed for her nurturing of some of the UK’s brightest stars including Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane and Giles. The innovative international names included Peter Jensen who presented signature bunny motif backpacks and tees; Carolyn Massey with some feminine-inspired silk tees and stripe knits and Omar Kashoura with his varied offering from manipulated tailoring and shape-memory metallic outerwear. Colin Henderson’s distinctive tribal-influenced illustrations have already secured him collaborations with Beyond the Valley London, the Nylon x Urban Outfitters pop-up store in New York as well as a series of
Art Direction commissions for various pop videos. Singapore based Woods & Woods Man is a relatively new name but promises big things if their exquisite tailoring (this season inspired by Aleksandr Rodchenko), polished outdoor wear and meticulous attention to detail is anything to go by.
‘Edge’ was an additional edited space with a range of menswear, which appeared to combine British Heritage with an eccentric, off-beat twist. Social Suicide was a highlight brand, full of wicked irony and ingenious quirks. Inspired by the humble living room sofa, clever designs included suit jackets made up of upholstery style fabrics with pockets to house bits that fall down the cracks! Blaqua produced shirting fit for any Peacock dandy with eye-popping floral prints in every guise from Arts and Crafts to digital and everything in between. Bolongaro Trevor was flying the flag (literally) for British rock’n’roll meets underground Victoriana. The original designers behind high-street giant All Saints presented covetable Union Jack blazers, faded skull print tees, deconstructed fine gauge knits and crinkled leather jackets.
For the street lovers, Melbourne-based Nobody denim brought cuts and washes for every preference with lots of distressed finishes in premium Japanese denim. Simeon Farrar’s distressed illustrated tees added a romantic touch to street wear.
We look forward with great expectation to the forthcoming Spring 2010 edition in June.
