The 90's are Vintage at Selfridges
It’s difficult to get your head around the fact that the 1990’s are a full decade behind us and can therefore technically and officially be christened ‘vintage’. London department store Selfridges kicks off 2010 with a nostalgic look at the decade that brought us Grunge, Girl Power, Heroin Chic and era-defining looks from designers like Prada and Jean Paul Gaultier.
The in-store concept retail space boasts an all-round celebration of pop culture from fashion to design, music to media. British music retailer HMV presents the Top 50 films of the decade whilst Sony’s pre-MP3 revolution Discman is available for sale. MAC present the 90s makeup ‘look’ complete with a re-issue of their iconic ‘Twig’ lip liner. IDEA books curate a pick of the decade’s most important publications from Interview to Wired and several Moss covered Vogues…
‘Vintage’ fashion gems come courtesy of two of London’s most prized thrift emporiums, Rellik and Beyond Retro. Think vintage Vivienne Westwood jackets alongside Chanel suits, Jean Paul Gaultier denim and Comme des Garcons avant garde- alongside band tee’s and G- Shock watches…
To top it all off, you can re-live the rave with DJ’s spinning tracks from Dalston’s (East London) original club night ‘Work It’.
