The Convenience Store ‘UNIFORM’ Launch

One of London’s most unique store concepts, The Convenience Store launched in 2008 challenging the very idea of ‘luxury’ stocking avant-garde and creative fashion…buried beneath a concrete social housing community. For a/w 2010, founder Andrew Ibi has built a fashion model “based on design as a ‘continuum’ and not as a ‘fashion moment or season’”. The result? UNIFORM, a concept described as “a welcoming movement of New Design Austerity”. In essence it’s a working wardrobe carefully curated and supplied by a selection of hand picked designers. The pieces available represent precious design integrity, craftsmanship and longevity as opposed to fast-fashion fuelled fixes ripped from the catwalks (or off the backs of celebrities.)

The new concept is showcased in The Front Room of the St Martin’s Lane Hotel where 10 steel lockers are sparsely stocked to reflect the austerity of a carefully curated personal wardrobe. Autumn/Winter 2010 pieces are chosen from the collections of contemporary designers like Ann-Sofie Back, Bernhard Willhelm, Heiki Salonen and Todd Lynn. Archive items come from the forward-thinking vaults of Bruno Pieters, Gareth Pugh, Margiela, Boudicca and AF Vandevorst. Forget trends - these are modern collectibles.

 Until 14th August only.
