The Lost & Found Hotel - Melbourne
We're well in-tune with a "slash slash" generation. We recognize the "/" as a common grammatical symbol, used now to summarize many-a-thing, and in Melbourne, hotel rooms too. Heralding from the city's creative studio, Right Angle, Melbourne is about to get its first inner-city hotel room/ object gallery/ cultural therapist. Occupying the corner room of Little Collins Hotel, Lost & Found (Right Angle's online city guide) have taken a new approach to concept hotel rooms- moving beyond the standard conventions of hospitality and focusing instead on promoting an "experience" that combines art, literature, music, furniture and textiles. Working in conjunction with Tourism Victoria, the room has been carefully re-designed to promote the talents of local artisans and designers, and in a sense bring the room to life. Avoiding the generic reliance on a guidebook, this unique concept directly immerses the guest in a room with everything from bed linen from Third Drawer Down, to toiletries from Aesop and literature from Amanda Maxwell. Experiencing these locally sourced products- as well as being linked up to a personal concierge- your stay in Melbourne is expected to be a far cry from the "touristy" cliché, which you may have encountered had you booked into your generic hotel and opened your generic Lonely Planet guide. And the best part? Subscribers to the Lost & Found newsletter are invited to request to stay at the hotel room for free!
