The Modfather is back
Paul Weller, the original hipster, and one of the sharpest dressers in the UK, has recently released his latest album, “Wake Up the Nation”, which hit the number 1 spot on the UK album charts this week. He first appeared the charts 33 years ago with The Jam and went on to further success with The Style Council. As much as his music, which moved from punk-tinged, political songs to smoother, jazzy sounds, Weller has always been know for his influential personal style. In his youth, he popularised Lonsdale T-shirts, Fred Perry polo shirts, parkas, skinny jeans and spectator shoes. Later, his style matured to slim, pin stripe suits, Prince of Wales checks, loafers and Italian knitwear. He still favours that modish mix of Fred Perry sportswear and crisp suiting now and the looks he rocks still influence brands like Paul Smith and Ben Sherman. Time for another Mod revival perhaps? If you want to see him live he’s touring Australia in October/November….we can’t wait to see him at the Enmore!
