We asked our favourite bloggers to sum up the best of 2009 - these are from Anush in NYC
Top five of 2009
1.Shock star Lady Gaga took the fashion and music industries in the palm of her hand. Dozens have copied her pant-less looks and now her most recent garment love affair with Alexander McQueen was showcased in the ‘Bad Romance’ video.
2. Mint green has been one of the hottest colours of the year on the runway and most recently seen on all the fingertips of the chic set is the Chanel nail lacquer, jade. This wintergreen shade has proved to be fresh and unexpected.
3. Lingerie becoming outer wear, as in daily wear was a big trend this year. With the various shades of nude in colour palettes, we also saw lace, slips, garters and exposed bras.
4. Sport inspired looks has been a heavy hitter for this year. Seen in New York during fashion week was Alexander Wang’s American football inspired collection and items like hoodies, runners shorts and sweat pants have all gotten high fashion updates.
5. Morocco was an influence with turbans and all sorts of covered headdresses, tunic dressing and drop crotch trousers and artful colour beadings and embellishments. A 2009 urban interpretation of this easy way of dress was in the revival of the loose silk jumpsuit.
