Under the sea

The sea is the next place for inspiration, as seen in Alexander McQueen’s last collection and the beautiful luminous blues of the characters in Avatar. A number of underwater hotels have opened in the past year including Poseidon in Fiji and Atlantis in Dubai. Sydney designer Donna Sgro debuted at Tokyo’s Isetan department store in 2009 with a collection based on luminous jellyfish. British design company Telegramme have a retro octopus print wallpaper and Japanese designer Tsumori Chisato finds a way to sneak some sea creatures into every collection. Apart from the wide range of blues, expect to see curly tentacles, bubbles and delicate jellyfish motifs cropping up across prints and embellishments.
