New Zealand Fashion Week AW16: Highlights

Existing slightly off-kilter with the mainstream fashion calendar, New Zealand Fashion Week has just wrapped up, presenting a commendable array of creative looks for AW16

Long time favourite Kate Sylvester channelled 1970s glamour with her trademark prints and flowing florals. Long-line leather jackets paired with elbow length leather gloves gave the collection a sophisticated edge, reminding us why she’s been on top for so many years.

Andrea Moore reinterpreted glam rock, making it Japanese-inspired pretty. Models in wide glasses paraded through gold confetti in printed culottes and platforms with socks.

Twenty-Seven Names opted for an outdoor show, presenting sneaker clad and ethnically diverse models in a very wearable collection with organic inspired semi-tailored shapes and layers. The look was strong and independent, with a soft edge.

Known for their unique cuts and lines, Zambesi was another standout show. Emphasising texture and contrast, the collection flashed between pleats, fringing, fur, wool, leather, chiffon and metallics, creating a unique and thought provoking look.
