Uniqlo Syndrome

Uniqlo Syndrome

Written by Kensuke Kojima, a veteran of Japanese fashion marketing, this book (released in Japanese in 2010 and in English in 2011) is an essential insight into the Japanese fashion manufacturing and retailing. Covering the rapid success of Uniqlo and the current retail malaise, Kojima examines how Uniqlo has changed the game in manufacturing, marketing and retailing and how that has affected other brands and department stores. While Uniqlo has enjoyed huge success at home and in new markets, it has come at the expense of smaller brands and even the famous denim manufacturers around Okayama. He also deals with the changes in China as it moves from a cheap outsourcer to a growing consumer market, the global success of Korean brands and the impact of fast fashion brands like Zara and H&M on Japanese retail. Anyone who is interested in design, retail or manufacturing – or indeed, the mammoth that is Uniqlo – will find much to think about in this book, available from Amazon.com
